One Big Story: Will AI take over 80% of work in 80% of jobs?

Vinod Khosla, the legendary investor and co-founder of Sun Microsystems, has some thoughts on AI—and they’re not for the faint-hearted. He predicts that AI will replace up to 80% of jobs across industries, from doctors and engineers to farm workers and salespeople. But it’s not all doom and gloom. In Khosla's eyes, AI could give us something we've all craved: more free time.

Key Takeaways:

  • Khosla estimates that AI can do 80% of 80% of all jobs across almost every industry.

  • He warns of a potential “economic dystopia” if AI’s benefits are not shared equitably—and suggests Universal Basic Income (UBI) as a solution.

  • With the right policies, he envisions a three-day workweek or even a world in which most people only need to work one day per week.

My Take: I’ve got to admit, Khosla’s vision excites me more than it scares me. If AI can handle the mundane, repetitive tasks that consume so much of our time, we get to focus on the things that truly matter—whether spending time with loved ones, pursuing hobbies, or finding new ways to be creative. Imagine not being defined by your job title but by what you actually love doing. Sure, there's a risk that wealth concentrates at the top, but with proper regulation, we could finally realize the dream of working to live, not living to work.

Bill Gates, Elon Musk, and others are on board with the idea of more leisure and less toil, and I am, too. The big challenge is ensuring we get there in a way that benefits everyone—not just a select few. But if we do, maybe in a few decades, we’ll all talk about how we finally got our time back, thanks to AI.

Cool Tech: Altera's New Area of Human Collaboration

Dr. Robert Yang, founder of Altera, has spent half his life working on AI inspired by the human brain. Now, his startup is creating "digital humans" — AI agents that can think, interact, and build emotional bonds with us. Yang's vision goes beyond productivity; it's about companionship and collaboration.

This is the future of so many things, in my opinion.

Main Takeaways:

  • Altera's first product, powered by OpenAI's GPT-4o, creates AI agents capable of playing games like Minecraft alongside humans in a profoundly interactive way.

  • These AI agents are designed for extended interactions without losing performance, solving the data degradation problem common to AI systems.

  • Using parallel modules inspired by the human brain, Altera's agents can make decisions, simulate emotions, and develop a sense of self, making interactions feel more natural.

My take: I am 38 and use TikTok to research trips and products. I have a feeling others do, too. TikTok is absolutely a threat to other legacy social media platforms.

My take: I am obsessed with home automation, and the only thing missing from my system is true AI. It sounds like it’s coming soon for all of us.

My take: ElevenLabs is one of the first AI tools I used at scale at work, and I am just a massive fan of their technology. I highly recommend checking out this original text-to-speech platform if you have not yet done so.

My take: I love this. I have long felt that robots and AI should be immediately deployed where people and animals are in harm’s way. If Spot can save lives for the LAPD, every police department worldwide should start placing orders.

Daily News for Curious Minds

Today’s Tip: The Ultimate AI Email Subject Line Generator

Writing email subject lines is harder than you think. I spend quite a bit of time (and I use a similar prompt to the one below) creating strong subject lines that hopefully entice you to open this email and engage with Bagel Bots.

The same can be said for my role as a Chief Marketing Officer. We put a lot of effort and time into the subject lines we send to our current customers and prospects to hopefully increase the number of emails opened and actions taken.

The prompts and insights below will help you craft a perfect email subject line for any situation.

Here is the prompt:

Generate [number] compelling email subject lines for [type of campaign or context] that convey [specific tone, e.g., excitement, curiosity, urgency] and are designed to [specific goal, e.g., increase open rates, evoke curiosity, drive a specific action]. Include variations such as [emotional hook, personalization, scarcity, humor, or direct offers]. Each subject line should be [desired length, e.g., under 10 words or within 50 characters].

This is how to get the most from this prompt ⬇️

Placeholders Explained:

  1. [number]: Specify how many subject lines you'd like (e.g., 10, 15, 20).

  2. [type of campaign or context]: Define the purpose or content of the email (e.g., a summer sale, new product launch, newsletter update, thank you note).

  3. [specific tone]: Indicate what tone the subject lines should take (e.g., playful, professional, urgent, casual, inspiring).

  4. [specific goal]: State what you want to achieve (e.g., boost click-through rates, increase urgency, evoke curiosity, encourage a direct response).

  5. [emotional hook, personalization, scarcity, humor, or direct offers]: Provide variations to make the subject lines engaging (e.g., add recipient's name, create FOMO, add humor).

  6. [desired length]: Adjust based on your audience's preferences or industry best practices (e.g., "keep it under 50 characters" for mobile optimization).

Example:

"Generate 10 compelling email subject lines for a holiday sale that convey excitement and urgency, designed to boost open rates. Include variations such as humor and scarcity. Each subject line should be under 8 words."

Result: (Example Output)

  1. "Last Day for 50% Off Holiday Deals!"

  2. "Get It Before It's Gone: Holiday Special!"

  3. "Santa's Secret Sale Ends Tonight!"

  4. "Holiday Cheer: Deals That Won't Last"

🤔 Which image is real?

One of these images is real, and one was created with AI. Vote for which one you think is real, and tell us why you voted that way. My only goal is to choose such good photos that the majority of votes are wrong.

Which image is the real one?

Login or Subscribe to participate in polls.

Last edition’s results (58% were correct):

Did you vote in the poll from the 8th? The bottom image received the most votes and was, in fact, real. This was one of the toughest ones yet, until today.

One comment that stood out came from Rick, who is clearly still better than robots:

“A photographer would choose to use a softer focus and not get so close up. I also don't believe someone would have that many freckles on their nose compared to on their cheeks. However, a BIG part of photography as an art is curation. The photographer chooses which images to use/display/distribute. Just as someone here chose a generated image in an attempt to confound us. Both images have similar aesthetics and that is to be attributed to the artist(s) who chose to use them in for this survey.”
