(Read time: five minutes) - Fun fact: I never change this.

If this election season wasn’t already crazy enough, AI and bots will take it to another level. A few days ago, President Joe Biden stepped down as the Democrat nominee in the 2024 election. It's expected but still a wild plot twist that doesn’t happen often. And I still believe the craziest things have yet to happen.

The US Department of Justice recently uncovered and disrupted a Russian propaganda campaign utilizing AI-powered fake social media accounts. These AI-created profiles, which impersonated Americans on X (formerly Twitter), were used to promote Russia's war in Ukraine and other pro-Kremlin narratives. According to the DOJ, this operation was Kremlin-approved and funded, overseen by a Russian intelligence officer, and organized by an unnamed editor at RT, the Russian state-owned media outlet.

"Russia intended to use this bot farm to disseminate AI-generated foreign disinformation, scaling their work with the assistance of AI to undermine our partners in Ukraine and influence geopolitical narratives favorable to the Russian government.”

FBI Director Christopher Wray said in a statement.

I fully expect at least 99% of people to be fooled by at least one deep fake video or image, a fake viral post, or an audio byte before the end of the year. Yes, even me. It’s going to get weird.

Cool Tech: Xiaomi’s Human-less Factory

I’m told (often) that my words sound anti-human. I am fascinated by the thought of robots replacing us, but I’m more intrigued by the fact that no one takes it seriously. It’s happening in real-time, yet no one seems to be preparing for it.

And now this.

Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun announced on Weibo that the new smartphone production factory in Changping, Beijing, will soon be operational. This “dark factory” can operate 24/7 without human intervention, with machines collaborating and maintaining a dust-free environment through micron-level dust removal.

The factory’s production quality will be managed by self-developed intelligent machines capable of manufacturing one smartphone every second. The promotional video highlights this factory as a small step in Xiaomi’s future exploration. Xiaomi has invested 2.4 billion yuan in the facility, which spans 81,000 square meters and is certified as a “national smart manufacturing benchmark enterprise.” It has an annual production capacity of 10 million flagship smartphones, including the upcoming Xiaomi MIX Fold 4 and MIX Flip.

Xiaomi has a history of automation. Its first smart factory in Yizhuang, Beijing, has been operational since 2019 and handles the production of the Xiaomi Mix Fold.

My take: You all know how I feel about this! If robot chefs could lead to higher quality food with less waste and lower prices, we should do it. If the food tastes good, I cannot imagine someone caring who or what cooked it.

My take: Funnier than me? In your dreams, ChatGPT. To be honest, I have crafted some hilarious lyrics and short stories with ChatGPT. I’m still funnier (for now).

My take: I don’t want humans to lose their jobs, but robots make manufacturing faster, safer, and can run 24/7.

My take: Less human casualties, for the win! War is a part of our way of life, but how nice would it be to not lose people we care about because of human-led wars? People against robot chefs or warehouse workers, are you also against this?
