I often discuss AI in the workplace and other parts of our daily lives, but I never discuss it on the battlefield. Maybe itās because Iām not a āwarā guy or because I donāt want to think about it.
Well, we have reached our Oppenheimer moment. For the record, thatās not a good thing.
Growing conflicts around the world have acted as both accelerant and testing ground for AI warfare, experts say, while making it even more evident how unregulated the nascent field is. The expansion of AI in conflict has shown that national militaries have an immense appetite for the technology, despite how unpredictable and ethically fraught it can be. The result is a multibillion-dollar AI arms race that is drawing in Silicon Valley giants and states around the world.
The refrain among diplomats and weapons manufacturers is that AI-enabled warfare and autonomous weapons systems have reached their āOppenheimer momentā, a reference to J Robert Oppenheimerās development of the atomic bomb during the second world war. Depending on who is invoking the physicist, the phrase is either a triumphant prediction of a new, peaceful era of American hegemony or a grim warning of a horrifically destructive power.

Cool Tech: Joby Aviation Hydrogen-Powered Air Taxi
Is the future hydrogen, electric, or something else? Whatever it is, I am excited to follow all the technology for a more efficient, cleaner planter.
Joby Aviationās vertical takeoff aircraft completed a 523-mile test flight using hydrogen power, emitting only water vapor. This suggests that hydrogen could be a more eco-friendly option for mid-range travel than traditional jets.
Joby Aviation is focused on air taxis using VTOLs. Initially developing electric aircraft with a 100-mile range for urban transport, the recent test used a prototype modified with hydrogen fuel, achieving zero in-flight emissions over 523 miles.
If this could get me from Orange County to Los Angeles quickly and safely, I would be 100% committed to being a frequent user. Plus, I would get to way more Dodgers and Lakers games.
