(Read time: five minutes) - Fun fact: I never change this.

Sakana AI created the AI Scientist, a new invention that aims to automate scientific research. Such foundation models are based on advanced technology, and this breakthrough allows Large Language Models (LLMs) to create ideas for research on their own, run experiments, and even write full scientific articles. The other thing about The AI Scientist is that it can automate peer reviews, thus maintaining high standards for generated studies. During its first test, this system presented some cost-effective innovative concepts in different machine learning areas like diffusion models or language modeling, for which every paper costs approximately $15.

Nonetheless, specific challenges are faced by the current version of The AI Scientist. It has difficulties with visual aspects since it does not have vision capabilities; it also sometimes needs to improve in implementation or logical comparison because it can innovate within established fields yet still has no common sense as humans do. This shows that improvements should be continuous, especially considering these weaknesses as an early-stage product without any vision modules. Nevertheless, Sakana AI sees the potential of “The” Artificial Intelligence Scientist as nothing less than revolutionizing science itself – according to them, we might soon witness such an unprecedented rate of advancement thanks to cheapening research through automation with artificial intelligence while making open-source codes more available.

Cool Tech: Google Gemini Live

The pendulum of the artificial intelligence leaderboard continues to swing, and right now, Google is back to making moves. I’ve been vocal about Apple (I am all-in on Apple products) and their lack of movement on AI. Of course, Google saw that as the perfect time to strike with the launch of Gemini Live.

This is what you need to know:

  • Gemini, Google's AI assistant, is getting a major upgrade with new features and capabilities.

  • Gemini Live allows for free-flowing conversations, hands-free use, and multiple voice options.

  • Expanded app integrations provide seamless task assistance, including Keep, Tasks, Utilities, and YouTube Music.

  • Deep integration with Android offers context-aware help, screen interaction, and drag-and-drop functionality.

  • Ongoing focus on speed, quality, and deeper integrations with Google services.

Alright, iPhone users—is this the device that finally makes us switch?! Probably not.

My take: As I have said many times in this newsletter—people are lonely and want someone to talk to. While I think AI is perfect for this, I worry about what it means for actual human connection.

My take: This is incredible but can improve if we remove humans from the equation. I don’t like driving, but I love my Tesla’s self-driving mode. Driving is a waste of time; we deserve that time back.

My take: $75M for chatbots? Seriously, the future of creating AI companies is so bright. If you’re out there, please go build. You’ll make a ton of money.

My take: Humanity is so fucked.

Today’s Tip: Use This AI Prompt To Hire The Right Person

I’ve founded two companies, and I can say that my least favorite part of building or running a business is interviewing people. Interviewing is hard because you only have a cover letter and resume to judge who to interview, and there is much wasted time. When there is no wasted time, you had better ask the right question to the right person to get a good hire. I created a prompt for you and hope you’ll use it!

Here’s the prompt (please fill in the placeholders):

Context:
You are interviewing a candidate for a [Job Title] position at a [Company Type/Industry]. The ideal candidate should have experience in [Key Responsibilities or Skills], strong [Specific Skill or Attribute], and the ability to collaborate effectively with [Relevant Teams or Departments]. They should also be passionate about staying up-to-date with the latest trends and developments in [Relevant Field or Industry].

Task:
Generate a series of thoughtful, open-ended questions for an interview based on the given context. The questions should be designed to elicit insightful and detailed responses from the interviewee, allowing them to showcase their knowledge, experience, and critical thinking skills. Avoid yes/no questions or those with obvious answers. Instead, focus on questions that encourage reflection, self-assessment, and the sharing of specific examples or anecdotes.

Use this prompt with detailed inputs to be entirely prepared to interview the next superstar who will take your business to the next level.
