It’s official—humans never learn. Colossal BioSciences just raised $200 million to resurrect extinct species like the woolly mammoth, the thylacine, and the dodo. Yes, this is straight out of Jurassic Park. And no, I’m not the first one to say, “What could possibly go wrong?” Spoiler: the movie ended badly for anyone without claws or sharp teeth.

Here’s what’s happening:

• Colossal has raised a total of $435 million since its launch in 2021, and this latest round puts the company’s valuation at $10.2 billion.

• Their goal? To create an “end-to-end de-extinction toolkit” using cutting-edge genetic engineering, AI, and some seriously sci-fi-sounding tech.

• Beyond bringing back long-lost species, they’re working on conservation efforts for endangered animals, like elephants and pigeons, because who wouldn’t want a 15,000-pound wingman?

My take: This has a ~63.2% chance of ending badly. 🤷
