I may differ from others on the current OpenAI situation, but let’s talk about it. Another key member and co-founder of OpenAI is leaving, and it probably makes many people think that something is wrong. First, Ilya Sutskever left to start Safe Superintelligence Inc. Now, co-founder John Schulman not only left, but he’s going to the competition at Anthropic.

What would it take to create one of the most innovative companies on Earth, where you are probably incredibly financially invested, to leave and work for a competitor? That’s weird.

This departure comes on the heels of OpenAI President Greg Brockman announcing an extended leave and Peter Deng, a product manager who joined last year, exiting the company. Schulman, who led OpenAI’s alignment science efforts, emphasized that his decision was personal, driven by a desire to focus more on AI alignment and hands-on technical work. He expressed confidence in OpenAI’s continued success, while Sam Altman, OpenAI’s CEO, praised Schulman for his brilliant contributions and lasting impact. With Schulman’s exit, only three of OpenAI’s original 11 founders remain at the company, marking a significant moment in the AI community.

So what’s the deal? Are they tired of working on this project or worried they’re building something bad? Either way, everyone is pretty tight-lipped about everything.

Cool Tech: NVIDIA Humanoid Robot

The robots are coming in HOT, and I am here for it!

By introducing three powerful computers, NVIDIA is changing robotics worldwide to support the construction of AI-enabled robots by leading manufacturers in this field. These comprise NVIDIA AI and DGX for training foundational models, Omniverse for simulating and enhancing AIs in a realistic virtual environment, and Jetson Thor, a supercomputer for robots. Moreover, the company has released new microservices — NVIDIA NIM — to speed up humanoid robot development through advanced robot simulation tools & generative AI. Developers can now create highly complex humanoid robots more efficiently than ever thanks to a new teleoperation-simulation workflow that uses Omniverse and NIM microservices, which generate huge volumes of synthetic motion and perception data from only a few recorded human demonstrations.

What does this mean? Robots are not a fad.

My take: Another early hit for the wearable AI market. Remember those Humane pins? They have $9M in sales and over $1M in returns. That’s not good.

Today’s Tip: Extract and Format Text from a PDF Instantly

Do you ever get a PDF sent your way and wish it was easier to extract and format the text from it? Especially if it has a lot of text or tables. Well, it’s pretty simple to instantly pull and format text from any PDF.

For example, let’s say I wanted to quickly retrieve all of the text from this single slide of a Hubspot eBook.

I would upload the entire eBook to ChatGPT or Claude with this prompt:

Please take the text from Page 10 (INSTAGRAM VIDEO SPECS TABLE) of this document and organize it into body text so I can save it to my notes app and use it in the future.

Instantly, I get formatted text to copy and paste into Notion or another notes app. It’s that simple!
