(Read time: five minutes) - Fun fact: I never change this.

Sora has arrived, and it will blow your freaking mind. OpenAI has launched its text-to-video platform, and I have never seen anything like it.

Sora is an AI model that can create realistic and imaginative scenes from text instructions.

OpenAI

Think about Midjourney for video, which, in my opinion, seems like a much larger lift. What comes next for Hollywood? Videographers?

OpenAI’s CEO Sam Altman has been taking requests and posting videos on his X page.

My take: Honest question—are they training the AI to replace them? Seems very likely.

My take: Quiet or not, no one reads the terms of service of anything they use anyway.

My take: OpenAI is valued at a whopping $80 billion, and it feels like such a low number for the world’s leading AI engine. For a good comparison, consider Microsoft and Apple hovering around $3 trillion.

My take: Facebook is free. Twitter is free. Reddit is free. They are free because they sell ads and data. Next on the list is AI. Either that, or you’ll have to pay for these websites. What do you prefer?

Today’s Tip: How To Not Be Lazy With ChatGPT

Twitter, LinkedIn, and so many websites are full of “guru ChatGPT prompts” and “life-changing prompts.” To be honest, 95% of the ones I see are bullshit. So today, we will walk through the basics of creating a great prompt. This is what you need:

  1. Clear Objective: The main goal or requirement should be stated clearly. Whether it's for answering a question, providing explanations, generating text or images, or performing a calculation, the clearer the objective, the more tailored the response can be.

  2. Specific Details: Any specific details relevant to the request should be included. For example, if asking for information on a historical event, specifying the event and any particular aspects of interest can help refine the response. If requesting an image generation, a detailed description of the envisioned image is crucial.

  3. Context or Background: Providing context helps in understanding the broader picture of the request. If the question is related to a previous discussion, summarizing that discussion can be beneficial.

  4. Preferred Format or Structure: If there is a preference for how the information should be presented (e.g., in a list, a summary, a detailed explanation, a specific image style or format), mentioning this in the prompt can guide the response accordingly.

  5. Constraints or Limitations: Mentioning any constraints (such as word count, image size, or specific information to include or exclude) can ensure the response fits within the desired parameters.

  6. Questions or Points of Interest: Specifying the questions to be answered or the points of interest can focus the response on the most relevant information.

  7. Deadline or Urgency: Although responses are typically immediate, knowing if the information is being compiled for a time-sensitive project can help in prioritizing the most relevant information.

  8. Tone or Style: For creative writing or content creation, specifying the desired tone (formal, informal, humorous, professional) can significantly influence the output.

  9. Examples or References: Providing examples or references, if applicable, can guide the style, tone, or type of information being sought.

So what does it mean? Let’s say you need help writing an email after a job interview. You can do what every “guru” online tells you to do (don’t do this):

Help me write a friendly and appreciative job interview follow-up email to Leah. Express how much you appreciated the talk and ask about the next steps in the process.

This is the better way to do this:

My name is Adam Greenbaum, and I interviewed for the CEO role at Marvel Studios earlier today. Please help me craft an email to Leah, the Chief People Office at Marvel Studios, to thank her for her time. The goal of the email is to let her know how much I appreciated her time, and to let her know that the talk confirmed that I am capable and excited about taking over the role of CEO of Marvel Studios. Please let her know that I am aligned with the wishes of the Disney board of directors and would love to take the next step in the process. Please also include that I am aligned on the company culture goals for 2024 and beyond, and am excited to implement them. I would like them to know how much I want this role, and would love a final timeline so we can plan this together. Be thankful, excited, and geniuine in the email. This needs to sound like a human wrote it, not robotic.

Try both of these prompts and see which output your prefer!
