(Read time: five minutes) - Fun fact: I never change this.

The future of media production has arrived. As I have said before, THIS is what Hollywood was worried about.

Toys “R” Us has just taken a leap into the digital age with their first-ever brand film, "The Origin of Toys “R” Us." Unveiled at the LBB Beach Event during the 2024 Cannes Lions Festival, this film is the result of a creative partnership with the Emmy-nominated agency Native Foreign. What makes this film truly special is that it was created using OpenAI’s cutting-edge text-to-video tool, Sora. This tool, still awaiting its public debut, has crafted a one-minute, dialogue-free story that brings to life the dreamlike vision of founder Charles Lazarus and the beloved mascot Geoffrey the Giraffe. It's a fresh, innovative take on how Toys “R” Us came to be, and it's definitely worth watching!

This is incredible but will come at the cost of human jobs.

Despite the alpha version of Sora currently available to a relative handful of entertainment industry executives, the technology has quickly become controversial as the business grapples with new technology resulting in job loss rather than serving as a creative tool. In February, Tyler Perry made headlines after halting an $800 million expansion of his Atlanta studio following a Sora demo.

“I am very, very concerned that in the near future, a lot of jobs are going to be lost,” Perry told The Hollywood Reporter at the time. “I really, really feel that very strongly.”

Cool Tech: Gmail’s Gemini AI Sidebar

Emails suck, but Gmail is getting smarter with new AI features designed to help you stay on top of your emails.

Google is rolling out a new Gemini side panel on the web, which is capable of summarizing email threads and drafting new messages. This tool offers proactive prompts and allows you to ask freeform questions, leveraging Google’s advanced models like Gemini 1.5 Pro. The mobile Gmail apps will also get the thread-summarizing feature. However, these handy tools are only available to paid Gemini users, including Google Workspace customers with specific add-ons and Google One AI Premium subscribers. While these features can be helpful, it’s wise to double-check any important emails drafted by Gemini, as AI can occasionally make errors.

Additionally, Google is extending Gemini capabilities to Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Drive, with more AI features like “Contextual Smart Reply” promised in the future.

This is nice, but not the Jarvis-level full email AI I’m still waiting for.

Latest News.

My take: As someone with a family member who is suffering from Parkinson’s, let’s hope this all comes true in a big way. A simple blood test using artificial intelligence to predict Parkinson's disease years before symptoms begin has been developed by researchers.

My take: OpenAI is on an M&A tear right now. It’s no secret that they are building the most advanced AI on this planet, growing faster than most of us expected.

My take: I am incredibly bullish on the future of autonomous transportation. The clock is officially ticking on car dealerships and ride-sharing app drivers.

My take: Universal Music Group, Sony Music Entertainment, and Warner Music Group, among others, filed lawsuits Monday against Suno and Udio-maker Uncharted Labs. The results of these lawsuits will be groundbreaking.
