(Read time: five minutes) - Fun fact: I never change this.

Elon Musk was a founder of OpenAI, but this week, he decided to sue them because the AI leaders are putting “profit ahead of benefiting humanity.” Why an entire lawsuit?

Elon Musk is suing OpenAI due to a disagreement over the company's shift towards a for-profit model and its partnership with Microsoft. Musk co-founded OpenAI in 2015 with the intention of creating an open-source, non-profit organization focused on developing artificial intelligence for the betterment of humanity. However, in 2018, OpenAI created a for-profit arm in which Microsoft is the largest investor. This move and the company's decision to keep the code for its newest generative AI products a secret have led to a legal dispute between Musk and OpenAI.

OpenAI shot back with a blog post explaining the situation and sharing emails from Elon Musk.

The mission of OpenAI is to ensure AGI benefits all of humanity, which means both building safe and beneficial AGI and helping create broadly distributed benefits. We are now sharing what we've learned about achieving our mission, and some facts about our relationship with Elon. We intend to move to dismiss all of Elon’s claims.
