One Big Story: Death Clock App Predicts the Date of Your Death

A new app called Death Clock uses AI to predict when you’ll die—and how you can push that date back. It’s like the old iPod Death Clock from 2006 but way smarter, trained on over 1,200 life expectancy studies.

Here’s how it works: you answer many questions about your health, habits, and family history, and it spits out your “death date.” For $40 a year, the app gives you tips to extend your life and a countdown clock to keep you motivated (or terrified).

Takeaways:

  • It’s based on solid data and could help people plan for their future.

  • Beyond the morbid curiosity, it’s useful—especially for financial planning.

  • Small changes could add years to your life.

My Take: Staring at a death clock sounds intense, but I think it’s genius. If it gets people to take their health seriously, it’s doing its job. Would I share my “death date” online? Nope. But if it helps me hit 103, I’m in.

Cool Tech: OpenAI’s 12 Days of 'Shipmas' Are Coming

OpenAI is getting festive with 12 days of AI announcements starting December 5th. They call it "Shipmas," packed with new features, products, and demos. The big headliners? Their much-anticipated text-to-video AI tool Sora and a new reasoning model.

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman confirmed the 12-day event at The New York Times’s DealBook conference, but details are still under wraps. Some employees have been teasing the announcements online, calling it the “shipmas tree” and saying OpenAI is “unbelievably back.”

Sora has been testing with hundreds of artists all year and is set to finally launch after plenty of anticipation—and some controversy. Meanwhile, Google is keeping pace with its own generative AI video model, Veo, which is already in private preview.

Rumor has it that a holiday-themed ChatGPT voice, complete with snowflake icons, is coming. Let’s see what OpenAI’s stocking has in store.

🤖  At The New York Times DealBook Summit, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman suggested that Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) might arrive sooner than expected but with less immediate impact, gradually progressing toward superintelligence. This shift indicates that OpenAI's current definition of AGI is less grand than initially posited, with significant economic disruptions expected to take longer due to societal inertia.

🛑 Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang envisions artificial intelligence as a fundamental global infrastructure akin to energy and communications and is actively engaging with governments worldwide to establish national AI systems using Nvidia's technology. However, geopolitical tensions, particularly between the U.S. and China, present challenges, with recent U.S. export restrictions on-chip components impacting Nvidia's operations in China.

💼 A recent survey by Menlo Ventures reveals that U.S. companies have significantly increased their AI investments, soaring from $2.3 billion in 2023 to $13.8 billion in 2024 as they transition from experimental phases to widespread implementation. Despite this surge, over a third of IT leaders lack a clear AI strategy, indicating that many organizations are still in the early stages of adoption.

📖 Microsoft's research highlights the growing capability of AI agents, powered by large language models, to control graphical user interfaces (GUIs), enabling them to perform tasks like clicking buttons and filling out forms based on natural language commands. This advancement transforms human-computer interaction by allowing users to execute complex, multi-step tasks through simple conversational inputs, with major tech companies integrating these features into their products.

A thoughtfully crafted nighttime routine can be the key to unwinding, reflecting, and setting yourself up for restful sleep and a productive tomorrow. Yet, designing an evening routine that fits your unique lifestyle, goals, and constraints can feel daunting—especially with countless "perfect nighttime" templates that might not suit your needs.

This prompt is designed to make building your ideal nighttime routine simple, personalized, and effective.
