One Big Story: Microsoft’s $80 Billion AI Bet

Think AI is just a fad? Companies don’t spend $80 billion on fads. Microsoft just announced it’s going all-in on AI infrastructure. In fiscal year 2025, it plans to spend a jaw-dropping $80 billion to build AI-focused data centers. Over half of that investment will be in the U.S. to train advanced AI models and roll out cloud-based AI applications globally.

Microsoft’s Vice Chair, Brad Smith, summed it up nicely: AI is a “world-changing GPT” (General-Purpose Technology) that will drive innovation and productivity across every sector. But building this infrastructure is no small feat—AI’s demand for energy and resources is pushing data centers to their limits.

In case you missed it, Microsoft has been cozying up to OpenAI in some areas, but they’re also starting to view them as competition. Interesting twist, right?

Main Takeaways:

  • $80 Billion Investment: Microsoft is serious about staying ahead in the AI race, with a massive chunk of change going toward data centers to handle AI workloads.

  • Global Focus, U.S. Dominance: More than half the spending will be in the U.S., potentially cementing its leadership in AI development.

  • Energy Challenges: The AI boom is creating power demand that data centers might struggle to keep up with—something we’ll all feel if shortages become widespread.

  • Stargate Supercomputer: Microsoft and OpenAI reportedly talked about a $100 billion AI supercomputer called Stargate. But now, they’re frenemies, with Microsoft calling OpenAI a “competitor” in SEC filings.

Cool Tech: Nvidia’s Project Digits—Your Personal AI Supercomputer

At CES 2025, Nvidia dropped a bombshell: Project Digits, a “personal AI supercomputer” that fits on your desk. Powered by Nvidia’s cutting-edge GB10 Grace Blackwell Superchip, this sleek machine packs up to a petaflop of computing power, making it a dream for AI researchers, data scientists, and even ambitious students.

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang described it as a cloud platform in a box. “It’s even a workstation if you like it to be,” he said. It’s a plug-and-play solution for training, fine-tuning, and running massive AI models.

The hardware is wild: It has 128GB of memory, 4TB of storage, and the ability to handle models with up to 200 billion parameters (or 405 billion if you connect two units). But like all great things, it comes at a price—starting at $3,000, it’s not exactly pocket change. However, this may be the next best thing outside of a fresh Apple computer. Sorry, Dell users.

Today’s Tip: Custom Website Fonts? Let AI Do the Heavy Lifting

Building a global company specializing in custom website design taught me one thing: choosing and integrating fonts can be a surprisingly frustrating process. Whether deciding between options or coding them into your site, it can feel like a hassle. The good news? You’ve got options. You can use Google Fonts for quick and reliable integration or something more advanced like Adobe Typekit. Either way, it usually involves adding custom CSS to your site’s admin section.

Thanks to AI, this process is easier and faster than ever. I’ve created a plug-and-play prompt that generates the necessary code in seconds. Double-check which fonts are compatible with your platform—Google Fonts are a great choice if you want something that works seamlessly. (Pro tip: some of my favorites are Inter, Poppins, and DM Sans!) Dive in, customize, and make your site look incredible with minimal effort.

Give it a try, and remember: the more context you provide, the better your results will be.

I need code to customize fonts on my website for [PLATFORM/WEBSITE TYPE] using [FONT SOURCE, e.g., Google Fonts, Adobe Typekit, or Custom Font Files]. I want the following font styles and sizes applied across various devices. Generate the appropriate code for me.
